Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu
Our flagship program at KU Juku USA was developed by Hanshi Patrick McCarthy, one of the foremost Western authorities on the subject of Okinawan Karate. In addition to his many years as a competitive champion, he spent decades visiting primary sources throughout Japan, Okinawa, and Southern China. Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu honors the classical basis (koryu) of the art and embraces progressive insight and methods to meet the needs of the modern (gendai) learner. Please visit koryu-uchinadi.com for more information.
KU can best be described as a type of sogo budo: a comprehensive / integrated martial art due to its diverse curriculum of Tegumi (grappling) / 手組, Torite (seizing) / 擒拿, Ti’gwa (boxing) / 手小, and Kata (forms) / 型/形. Interest in KU has grown considerably over the past 30 years, as it can be practiced as a stand alone system or used to enhance the functional application of other martial arts. We take great care to create an environment where all learners can grow.
Thomas Erik Angerhofer (shidoin / yondan) has been a member of the International Ryukyu Karate Research Society and a student of Hanshi Patrick McCarthy since 2002. He began his martial arts training in 1984, and has trained in a number of styles, including kickboxing, BJJ, submission grappling, Wu Taijiquan, Japanese / Okinawan Karate and Kobudo. He is also a highly regarded musician and educator.
